Yet again life has been taking me on a wild ride. There are so many things happening right now between two jobs, new friends, old friends, family, and life in general. I’m keeping my creative juices flowing every day though. I’ve been toying around in my mind starting up my project 365 again and sticking to it this time. I was a bit inspired yesterday when I missed what I thought were 3 amazing photo ops that I could have had if I had my camera with me.
I actually snagged a photography job with Sharpshooter Imaging in association with BB Riverboats down in Newport, KY across the river from Cincinnati. So I pretty much take pictures almost every day of my life now. Don’t get me wrong the pictures are normally all the same, but the way I see it the more I have to take pictures, mess with settings, and edit my work the more experience I have in the long run. I’m also gearing up for the end of August where I will find out if I will be hired on with Major League Gaming.
Keep it real out there creatives!
I found this blog post from Chase Jarvis really awesome and I’m taking his advice this weekend. It’s my last week in school and I’m going to get a good kickstart to the summer!
If you wait around to read the email when it pours into your inbox, will you ever have time to take pictures? How many ideas will you miss by chasing the next best thing rather than finishing the project you’ve already started?
If you continue taking those crappy gigs that generate dogpoop looking photos or films, will you ever have time to create the ones you want?
What is the cost of doing things that your industry says are “normal”?
How many pictures will you let pass you by if you wait till you get a better camera, better lights, or better vision?
If you do what your teacher tells you to do without pushing the boundaries of photo school, will your work look just like everybody’s in your class?
How old will you be when you finally quit your day job because it sucks?
When was the last time you …created an uninterrupted day for yourself to do the things that you wanted to do, rather than attended to “obligations” that weren’t really obligations at all?
It’s great to please the world. To be a citizen, to answer the phone, to go out of your way, to… to…. to… But every once in a while, it’s healthy to do things on your own terms. Take a break from reacting and choose your own adventure this weekend.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve really posted anything so I thought I would post an update. I’ve been really busy with school. Taking 3 studio art classes was not a good idea and I would not recommend it to anyone EVER! On top of that I have work and friends to balance into the mix. I have been enjoying my new D300s alot, although I haven’t been shooting as much as I would like. I know that’s going to change as time goes on though. The website is still sitting on my computer half completed. One of these weekends I will be sitting down to finish it so I actually have my own place to share my work. For now as always you can catch me on Deviant Art. Stay tuned!
My D300s and 70-200mm f/2.8 lens arrived the other day and I’ve been busy taking pictures. Next week is my spring break so I’ll be pumping photos out like crazy. Here’s one of the first shots out of the camera!
On Photoique, the photography forum I’m a member of, I’ve got two great things going on over there right now. I’ve won the weekly theme contest with my Stingray picture and the members chose my idea for the latest community project which will be “A Day in Your Life.” Expect some trials and errors plus the finished pictures posted here as I work on this project.
